The Royal College of Music Museum is open Tuesday – Sunday and our friendly team welcomes visitors to explore our unique collection of instruments, artworks and manuscripts.

The Royal College of Music Museum contains the earliest known guitar, the earliest stringed keyboard instrument and the most recognised portraits of Joseph Haydn and Farinelli. Learn about these and 56 other fascinating instruments specially chosen from the RCM’s designated collection of over 14,000 items.

Music, Migration & Mobility

Explore the lives and legacies of musicians who fled the Nazi regime and the ravages of war in our latest special exhibition. From Jewish musicians who were removed from their posts to political opponents escaping retribution, Britain offered a creative home where they could thrive and go on to a play a role in enriching its cultural life. Following a £3.6 million investment from the National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Royal College of Music Museum has undergone a complete redevelopment. Our Museum is accessible to visitors with limited mobility. You can read more about access in the RCM Museum here 

*Please note: you are welcome to visit at any time during our opening hours even though there is a notional start time as part of the booking process. Ticket holders will be prioritised in the event that we are at capacity.

The RCM provides light refreshments throughout the year. There is also a range of restaurants, cafés and other establishments nearby, most adjacent to South Kensington station.

RCM Café

The RCM Café serves barista-style coffees, sandwiches, snacks, salads and hot food. There is also access to outside seating in our new 1851 courtyard.

Monday-Friday: 8.30am-4.30pm

Saturday: 8.30am-4.30pm (term time only)

The main entrance to the RCM has eight steps up from the pavement and two inside the main doors. A lift is available for visitors with limited mobility. The lift is built into the smaller staircase to the left of the main entrance steps. There is an intercom button on the control panel, which can be seen and reached easily from the street. On arrival, press the buzzer to notify a member of RCM staff, who will come out to meet you and operate the lift for you.

All our event venues can be accessed by visitors with limited mobility via the lift at the main entrance.
