Studying at the RCM and living in a city as culturally rich as London offers an incredible opportunity for any aspiring musician. The RCM Students’ Union is here to help you make the most of it.
The Students’ Union (SU) is a lively body that represents every student enrolled at the Royal College of Music. The SU Executive Committee is elected by students and comprises the President and a team of five officers. For the 2022/23 academic year these are:
- President - Tymon Zgorzelski
- Diversity Officer - Larli Davies
- Events Officer - Connor Gingell
- International Officer - Anian Wiedner
- Marcomms Officer - Eyra Norman
- Welfare and Disabilities Officer - Louisa Kataria
We represent the student voice at all levels within the College, from day-to-day matters to the decisions made by the RCM Council. We also organise student socials, promote health and wellbeing and work closely with Student Services on pastoral care. Studying at the Royal College of Music and living in a city as culturally rich as London offers an incredible opportunity for any aspiring musician. The RCM Students’ Union is here to help you make the most of it.
The SU supports a diverse range of student-run societies. These include Bouldering Society, Chess Club, Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, Christian Union, DASH (Disability, Access and Student Health), Exploration Society, Film Scoring Society, Jazz Society, Minecraft Society, Natural Trumpet Society, Society of Liberal Arts, and many more.
We are keen to ensure that all students have a well-rounded experience and SU will support any new societies that are created throughout the year. Please get in touch with us if you would like to create a new society. Moreover, our link with Imperial College Union means that all RCM students have access to numerous Imperial societies.
We believe in having sufficient time to socialise and have fun with fellow students, which helps us all work hard and get the most out of our practise time. Students’ Union events are usually held in BaRCM, where there is space to dance, drink, sit and talk. The student socials are designed to include all students so they will vary in format, but they are always meant to be an opportunity to relax and unwind. The Freshers' Week events are a chance for you to meet your peers from across all RCM faculties - we encourage you use the opportunity to get to know your fellow students. Tickets will be on sale in early September.
Health and wellbeing
Looking looking after students’ wellbeing is of vital importance, and we help the RCM provide a range of support activities and advice to manage this. We are also keen to promote spiritual wellbeing.
The SU office is always open for general enquiries or for a chat. If you have a more sensitive issue you would like to discuss with one of our officers, rather than a member of RCM staff, you can make an appointment or drop-in at the SU office in BaRCM.
Each faculty has a student representative that you can relay your feedback to. The reps are members of various committees around College that they can take your feedback to, or contact relevant members of staff on your behalf. The SU team supports reps at each of these stages. Feedback is a vital aspect of improving students’ experience at College and we encourage all students to share their views.
Whether you’re an undergraduate, postgraduate or doctoral student, the RCM Students' Union is here to support you and help you get the most out of your social and academic time here. We exist to improve each and every one of your College experiences.
